Title:
Hydrogenolysis of Polyhydroxy Alcohols using Metal
Incorporated Manganese Oxide Octahedral Molecular Sieve As A Catalyst
Abstract: The
invention relates to the hydrogenolysis of polyhydroxy alcohols in the presence
of metal incorporated manganese oxide octahedral molecular sieve catalyst
(M-OMS) to produce their corresponding lower alcohols. Hydrogenolysis of
glycerol is performed above 50 °C temperature and hydrogen pressure of at least
10 bar while maintaining good conversions and high selectivity towards desired
products.

Title of Invention: Process For Production Of Propanediol
Publication Date (U/S 11A)
Field of Invention. The present invention is
related to process production of propanediols by selective catalytic
hydrogenolysis of glycerol. In the present process hydrogenolysis of glycerol
is carried out in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst containing metals on
octahedral molecular sieves. Hydrogenolysis of glycerol to propanediols is
performed at temperatures above 180 °C and hydrogen pressure of at least 200
psi while maintaining high selectivities and good conversions.
