Program Details

General Department

About the Department:

A generation of Engineering with a scientific outlook towards life, work and society through an objective, nonpartisan understanding of scientific reality with humanitarian values.

The General Department teaches and promotes practical aspects of Applied Sciences and Humanities to build a solid foundation as part of the Engineering Education. The department prepares students for core engineering branches by educating them in the basic sciences of physics, chemistry and mathematics in the first year.

Mathematics is indispensable for the engineering community.  Students use mathematics to understand and solve engineering problems.  The teaching staff of the department have published many papers in national and international journals. The area of research are Fractional Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, Fluid Dynamics, Optimization Methods and Graph Theory.

Physics is crucial to the understanding of the world around us. Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles. Physics is the basis of many engineering courses. The department of physics offers Engineering Physics courses to all engineering programs in semester 1 and 2.

Like Physics, many of engineering subjects depend on chemistry. The faculty members for chemistry are committed to the students and to research. The teaching staff of the department have published many papers on chemistry in national and international journals.

The English Communication skills laboratory is an integral part of the department. Students receive training in written and verbal communication essential to succeed in the work place.

Posts filled:

Associate Professor - 2, Assistant Professor - 9

Vision:

To nurture engineering skills and human values by providing fundamental base of science and humanities to cater the societal need of stouthearted engineers.

Mission:

1. To encourage students to know the practical applications through practice.

2. To create a self motivated learning environment for work ethics and human values.

3. To develop interdisciplinary approach to technical education through a blend of humanities and core sciences.

Labs

In General Department physics lab is located at first floor of H block Room No. H-104 at old campus. We provide all the practical physics needs of the current syllabus of Physics, offered for 1st year students. Experiments are arranged mainly in three part (1) Optics, (2) Solid state devices (3) Classical Mechanics and properties of materials.

Chemistry is a subject of learning by doing. The practical performed in the lab improve students a lot. The chemistry laboratory offers lab courses for the subjects like Engineering chemistry, organic chemistry and unit processes, physical and inorganic chemistry for various semesters of Chemical Engineering department. It is well equipped to do lab work for these courses. Some techniques used in chemistry lab and related research work, involve weighing, preparing solutions, stirring, characterizing a compound by collection of data etc.

The instruments present in lab and their uses in brief are shown below:

1. Muffle furnace and Hot air oven for carrying out proximate analysis of coal, as     well to determine moisture content of a sample, in analysis of an alloy etc.
2. pH meter, conductivity meter, potentiometer for analytical experiments for           measuring electrical properties.
3. Melting point apparatus for identification of compound and its characterization
4. Analytical balance for weighing, making solution and for gravimetric analysis
5. Magnetic stirrer and heating Mantle in various heating and mixing purposes         during experimental analysis

Dell – Digital English Language Lab was established in L. E. College, Morbi in 2014. It’s an initiative of government of Gujarat. It aims at improving the language of students for professional communication. The lab has been established in the campus itself and offers CPT level for students and is a centre for online examination. As the college has been chosen as a centre thus students of the college have an advantage as they avail the facility at the college campus itself. Infrastructure vise lab consists of 26 computer units and a server for the same and last year that is in the year 2016-17 more than 100 students have successfully cleared the examination conducted by SCOPE.
